Amongst the most sought after apple products we have the iPod.
The iPod is a media player that was first marketed in 2001 as the best portable alternative for users of all ages. In terms of variety we have the iPod Classic, the iPod Nano, the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Touch which features a touchscreen. These digital music players work also as external storage devices.
The iPod family uses the iTunes software in order to transfer music, photo, video, games, e-mail settings and contact information files from computers into the devices by using different operating systems. Two models that are no longer in production are the iPod Mini that was replaced by the iPod Nano and the iPod Photo replaced by the iPod Classic.
The iPods came to be as Apple realized that a lot of attention was being paid to other personal digital devices (organizers, digital cameras and camcorders) while digital music players had fallen behind in terms of looks, functionality and user interfaces. A team made of Jon Rubinstein (hardware engineering chief), Michael Dhuey and Tony Fadell (hardware engineers ), and Jonathan Ive (design engineer) amongst others. This team put together the device in less than a year, and in 2003 was ready to offer people a 5GB device that could support up to 1,000 songs. As far as its name is concerned, it was proposed by Vinnie Chieco, a copy writer that was called to put together and introduction of the new digital player for the public.
One of the main reasons why the iPod has been so successful has to do with the fact that it can play audio file formats such as Apple Loss Less, MP3, Audible Audiobook, AAC/M4A, AIFF, WAV and protected AAC. In terms of photos, the iPod can display PNG, GIF, BMP, JPEG and TIFF image file formats. When it comes to installing your iPod, is should be associated with one host computer, and every time it connects to it, iTunes will be able to synchronize complete music libraries.
